India's Share In International Tourist Arrivals Go Up By 0.22 pc to 0.56 per cent In 2007

Country's share in international tourist arrivals has increased to 0.56 per cent in 2007 from 0.34 per cent in 2002.

Replying to a query in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Tourism Kanti Singh said, "The share of India in international tourist arrivals increased from 0.34 per cent in 2002 to 0.56 per cent in 2007." She said the infrastructural constraints that inhibit large inflow of foreign tourists were being addressed. Development of tourism sites and hotel infrastructure, particularly low budget ones, were underway.

The existing institutes of hotel management and food craft institutes were being strengthened, Singh said and added that new such institutes were coming up to meet manpower requirements of hospitality sector.
