Kerala has recorded 20 per cent growth in tourist inflow and registered 25 per cent hike in revenue last year, touching Rs 11,500 crore mark which is higher than the national average figure, Kerala Tourism Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said on Sunday.

The state has emerged top among other tourist destinations in India thanks to its distinct natural beauty and greenery. Conservation of nature accorded top most priority while giving administrative sanctions for any tourism ventures in the state, Balakrishnan said.

Speaking at the inaugural function of a Rs 30 crore 'Vismaya' water theme amusement park here, he said such parks play a key role in luring more tourists to the state.

The boom in tourism sector has resulted in generation of 12 lakh jobs in the state, he said.

The Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) has plans to set up budget hotels to help the people in the lower income category.

The historic Bekal Fort in Kasaragod district would be developed as a global tourist destination in three years and the five KM long Muzhappilangad drive near Kannur beach would become a major tourist destination in the next few years, Balakrishnan said.
